17 years!

… a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance.
Ecclesiastes 3:4

Two are better than one because they have a good return for their labor. For if either of them falls, the one will lift up his companion. But woe to the one who falls when there is not another to lift him up. Furthermore, if two lie down together they keep warm, but how can one be warm alone? And if one can overpower him who is alone, two can resist him. A cord of three strands is not quickly torn apart.
Ecclesiastes 4:9-12

Today we celebrate our 17th wedding anniversary – August 1, 1992 was the day… San Antonio, TX…2 o’clock in the afternoon…ice sculptures….lots of friends and family…strawberry trees…about 100 degrees….no A/C at the reception…horse drawn carriage…bird seed sticking to our sweaty skin…honeymoon in Galveston…and then one week later a church youth beach trip to Port Aransas, TX…separate condos…and about 50 crazy teenagers!

That beach trip sort of set the pace and tone of our married life….people, people, people, activity, activity, activity. And we somehow managed to continue that pace for about 16 years. This year was the most difficult we’ve ever faced together – mostly due to my choices to just keep going and reject the promptings of the Lord to stop and rest. So He finally just stopped me…right in my tracks. It wasn’t pretty.
But my husband said that it was pretty…even beautiful. And he just kept serving me hot tea in bed, taking me out for coffee in the afternoon, washing clothes, helping with kids, leaving me notes with scripture on them, dancing with me every time there was an opportunity, listening to me, and praying over me and with me for months.
It gave me time to pray alone, to read the promises of love, grace and forgiveness in the Word, to listen to His voice, to hear His reassurances and truths, to know myself, and to heal.
What a gift Robert is to me.
I am much more in love with him now, and my Savior because of him, than I ever was 17 years ago.

  1. What a great post. I love the top pic. You are beautifufl and Rob's eyes in that one make me smile. What a great partnership God created when he put you two together. How blessed your children are to see you two do life together in such a serving way to each other and ultimaly to God.

  2. Beautiful… how sweet. May you two continue to lead each other into deeper, purposeful love with the Saviour as you continue through! Love you both! Congrats!!

  3. "In His time…in His time…He makes all things beautiful in His time. Lord, please show me everyday as You're teaching me Your way, that You do just what You say, in Your time.
In Your time…in Your time…You make all things beautiful in Your time. Lord, my life to You I bring, may each song I have to sing, be to You a lovely thing in Your time." Blue skies, Mel. Love, Kelly and Jack
