Home From Vacation

We had a great time and wonderful weather for our trip! The campsite was very nice – with an outdoor heated pool, playground, and best of all clean bathrooms and showers! We had to borrow the Baglow family’s tent because we’ve outgrown ours.

The Maid of the Mist was fun -takes you up near the falls and feels like a rain shower – the ponchos were a necessity for not getting drenched! We discovered that 16 people have gone over the falls purposefully, and 11 of them actually survived. A nine year old boy went over in only a life jacket after his fishing boat capsized. He survived and was picked up by the “Maid.”

Ft. Ticonderoga is located between Lake Champlain and Lake George. It was a French fort during the French and Indian War, and then a British Fort. We found out that it was our own dear Lord Jeffrey Amherst who attacked the fort during the Revolutionary War on behalf of the colonists and won. Kory and Cooper were so excited to each purchase a replica flint lock rifle there!

Ausable Chasm is about an hour north of the fort and directly across Lake Champlain from Burlington, VT. We hiked all along the ridge of the chasm on a walkway with a rail. It was a little unsettling at first to be up so high above the water and rocks, but really beautiful! After our hike, we ferried across Lake Champlain and stayed with friends in Burlington.

The other fun stop we made was to the Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream Factory in Waterbury, Vt. We toured the factory, but unfortunately were unable to taste the sample of the day which was cinnamon roll-full of batter. I think they will substitute for those with allergies, but we just decided to get our own scoops at their outdoor cafe. Ben and Jerry’s is good, but “the best ice cream in the country” is still in Brenham, TX. Blue Bell- yum!
